Welcome to Your Healthy Pelvy Journey

Healthy Pelvy: Pelvic Floor Therapy

My name is Kelsey and I’m your pelvic floor occupational therapist! My job and passion is to work with patients to address problematic symptoms related to their pelvic floor, or women’s health in general.

I work with patients with a variety of concerns, and my whole-person approach focuses not only on the anatomy of the pelvic floor, but also the habits, roles, and routines in your daily life that may be impacting your symptoms.

Pregnancy

If you’re pregnant for the first time or have already had kiddos, let’s work together to prepare you for the delivery you have in mind and help you with the pregnancy along the way.

Postpartum

It should be part of the protocol postpartum, but let’s help you get back into your body and recover from the birth of your little one(s)! We’ll go over recovering from a vaginal or cesarean delivery, as well as exercises and stretches to get back into your body in a healthy way postpartum.

Leaking

Although potentially common, it is not “normal” to leak (either urine or feces). Let’s figure out the specific cause in your case and address it via exercises/stretches and lifestyle modifications, and learn how to pay attention to your body!

Constipation

A normal bowel movement should occur with fair warning, and not a lot of pushing/straining. Generally, your body should do the work for you automatically. Additionally, you shouldn’t be left feeling bloated or uncomfortable. Let’s address your source of constipation and help ease your symptoms.

Pain

Pain with intimacy is absolutely not normal and there are a lot of ways to problem-solve improving this symptoms. Other pain - including lower abdominal, pelvic, vaginal, or anal - should not have to be part of your daily life.

Urinary frequency

Are you constantly in the bathroom or limiting your extracurricular/vacation activities because of needing access to the restroom? Let’s work together to get you back on a better schedule that doesn’t revolve around the toilet.

FAQs

Do you take insurance?

No, Healthy Pelvy is a specifically cash-based business. Prices and services are available on the “Services” page.

I’m pregnant, should I wait for after my baby for pelvic floor therapy?

You are welcome to participate in therapy at any time you feel able to. That being said, there’s a lot we can accomplish while you’re pregnant that will a) help your pregnancy go smoothly, b) improve your labor and delivery experience, and c) provide some immediate resources in the first days/weeks postpartum.

I leak when I sneeze, cough, and laugh - isn’t this normal?

No! It’s super common, but there’s no reason pee should be leaving your body unless intentionally on the toilet. It could also be a sign of imbalances of pressure from above in the abdominal cavity (basically your mid-section) pushing down toward your pelvic floor. Let’s re-disperse those forces so you don’t have to be scared of laughing with your friends!

I thought pelvic floor therapy was all “kegels”?

Kegels can absolutely be what your body needs. It also could be that your pelvic floor is holding super tight and actually you need to coordinate relaxing your muscles a little prior to trying to squeeze and strengthen them. I like to be sure before having my patients do kegels.

My doctor said I just need a surgery?

Surgery could be helpful for you. My perspective is - let’s see if there’s a source of your symptoms that can be managed to either decrease your symptoms to avoid surgery or to improve the outcome of your surgery should you decide to have it. The surgeries that are recommended often include bladder lifts or hysterectomies.

How many sessions will we do?

That’s a really tricky question to answer. It really depends person to person. We could review things in one session that feels like it sets you up well, or we could do a few sessions and then revisit months down the road. We’ll discuss this and figure out the best approach for you!
